Nonsolopiano "Nitty Gritty Ditties"
von John Wolf Brennan
A ditty is a short, simple song, a tune a mother sings to her child. But simplicity is often deceptive, misleading. It only seems to be easy. As a matter of fact, simplicity sometimes becomes rather complex; complexity can turn out to be quite simple. “Let’s get down to the nitty gritty” therefore means: let’s get to the heart of the matter, to the name of the game, to the core, the nuc-leus, the essence, the spirit. Let’s get to the bottom line.
